Why AI Won't Replace Websites

Lately I've been reading a lot out there that "websites are going to disappear", that "ChatGPT is going to change everything" and that "nobody needs a website anymore". And look, I understand the hype. AI is impressive.

But there's something these people aren't seeing. Something quite obvious if you think about it for two seconds.

🔥 Unpopular opinion: Artificial intelligence can't exist without websites. It needs them more than ever.

Let me explain.

Where do you think ChatGPT gets its information?

When you ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or any other AI something, where do you think the answer comes from?

It's not magic. It doesn't make it up (well, sometimes it does, but that's another topic). The information comes from the internet. From websites. From articles. From blogs. From technical documentation. From forums.

AIs are trained with content that humans have created and published on websites.

"Without websites, there's no information. Without information, there's no AI."

It's that simple. ChatGPT doesn't create new knowledge. It reorganizes, summarizes and presents in a different way the knowledge that already exists on the internet. Knowledge that's on websites.

Websites are the source. AI is the tap.

I like this metaphor: imagine the internet is a giant water tank. Websites are the rivers and streams that fill that tank. And AI is a very sophisticated tap that serves you the water in a convenient way.

But if the rivers dry up... the tap is useless.

If all websites disappeared tomorrow, AI would have nothing to say. It wouldn't have updated information. It wouldn't know what's happening in the world. It couldn't answer questions about new products, services or businesses.

Someone has to create the content

And here comes the million-dollar question: who's going to create the content that AIs need?

The answer: humans. Us. You and me.

Yes, AI can help you write faster. It can correct you. It can give you ideas. It's an incredible tool. But in the end, original content, real experiences, authentic opinions... that's created by humans.

💡 AI is a tool, not a creator. It speeds up the process, but original content still comes from real people with real experiences.

And that content, where does it get published? On websites. On blogs. On portals. On online stores. On business websites.

People want to see authentic things

There's something AI can't replace: authenticity.

When you want to hire someone, what do you do? You search for their website. You want to see their work. You want to read their story. You want to know who's behind it.

When you want to buy something, do you trust generic AI text or do you prefer to see real reviews from real people, real photos, a website with a face and personality?

Humans want to connect with other humans. We value what's authentic. We want to know there's a real person behind a business, a product, a service.

🎯 The more content AI generates, the more we'll value human-made things. Authenticity will be the new luxury.

And that authenticity is shown on your website. In how you write. In the photos you use. In your story. In how you present yourself.

Your website is your digital identity

Think about it this way: social media comes and goes. Remember MySpace? Vine? Google+? They all disappeared or became irrelevant.

But websites have been around since the 90s. And they're still the foundation of the internet. They're the only digital space that you control 100%.

It's your digital identity. Your business card. And every time someone asks an AI about your industry, that AI searches for information on websites like yours.

AI makes your website MORE important

Here's the irony: AI doesn't make websites less important. It makes them more important.

Why? Because now you have more ways to be discovered:

And all these AIs get their information from... can you guess? Websites.

If you have a website with good information, with structured data, with useful content, AIs will find you and recommend you. If you don't have a website, you don't exist for Google or for AIs.

Conclusion: make your website, but make it right

Don't be fooled by alarming headlines. Websites aren't going to disappear. They're the foundation of the internet and the source of information for AIs.

What does change is how you need to make your website:

AI is an incredible tool. Use it to go faster. But don't forget that in the end, people want to connect with people. And your website is where you show there's a real human behind it.

🌐 Your website is your territory on the internet. AI can change how people find you, but it doesn't change the fact that you need a place to exist.
